Project Proposal
I am by no means an environmental activist. I don’t keep three separate recycling bins in my home, and when it comes to water and electricity I only stay conscious of and save it because I don’t want to waste money. But nothing bothers me most than when I go hiking and only halfway through my trip I’ve already passed two empty water bottles and a plastic baggy that I am sure once held some ones trail mix. Or when I’m in town and I pass a bench with three Slurpee cups and a trash can was only 6 feet away.
This laziness or just complete disregard to common courtesy is not only aggravating but way more harmful than people seem to realize. I know that no one is perfect and that accidents happen, I’ve been guilty of leaving things behind, but I really do try to do what I can to not make a mess of this place that I live in and share with those around me. But I feel it is time to remind people of the effects of negligence.
For my thesis I will be photographing different public spaces where there is any trash that has been left. Shopping centers, parks, ditches, etc. Nothing is off limits. I want to show people what disrespect can look like and how it is affecting our communities and environment.
